Stroke Prevention
Personalized Risk Assessment and Advanced Vascular Diagnostics
Learn more about our options for the early detection of vascular risk factors and targeted stroke prevention, offered as self-pay medical services (Individuelle Gesundheitsleistungen, IGeL).
Personalized Stroke Prevention
Many risk factors for stroke can be identified early and effectively addressed. Our personalized stroke prevention program combines a comprehensive neurological and vascular risk assessment with advanced neurovascular diagnostics. The aim is to identify individual risk factors and potential vascular changes at an early stage and to develop a prevention strategy tailored to your personal risk profile.
Assessing Your Personal Stroke Risk
We begin with a detailed assessment of your individual risk profile. This includes factors such as blood pressure, blood glucose metabolism, blood lipids, smoking, pre-existing medical conditions, medications, and family history of vascular disease. We also measure relevant laboratory parameters, including HbA1c, cholesterol and other blood lipids, as well as lipoprotein(a).
Assessing the Arteries and Blood Flow to the Brain
A key component is ultrasound examination of the arteries supplying the brain. Using Doppler and duplex ultrasound, we assess the arteries of the neck and brain and can detect vascular changes such as atherosclerosis, narrowing of the arteries (stenosis), and other abnormalities.
Depending on your individual risk profile, additional specialized neurovascular examinations may be appropriate. These include transcranial Doppler ultrasound and, where clinically indicated, testing for a right-to-left shunt, for example due to a patent foramen ovale (PFO), using a contrast-enhanced bubble test.
Digital fundus photography can also be used to assess and document the retina, optic disc, and blood vessels at the back of the eye. The fundus provides a direct view of small blood vessels and may provide additional information about vascular changes.
Personalized Recommendations for Prevention
Based on the findings, you will receive an individualized assessment of your vascular and stroke risk, together with specific recommendations for prevention. These may include targeted management of modifiable risk factors, recommendations regarding physical activity, diet, and lifestyle, and, where necessary, further diagnostic or therapeutic measures.
Depending on your age, medical history, symptoms, and individual risk profile, additional examinations may be appropriate. We will discuss with you which diagnostic tests are medically appropriate in your individual case.
